Lost and found 2008

Postby Amber » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:06 pm

Is this a good place to post this? Any advice on returning a lost object to its owner appreciated.

FOUND: A lone earring emerged from the mud under our tarp at the main stage on Sunday afternoon. It was probably lost on Saturday. This seems like a long shot, but It's a pretty little thing and would like to be reunited with its mate.

GREAT idea, posting lost and found.
I lost one of my favorite bracelets last year and always wondered if there was a lost and found type area.

There is a "lost and found" area, in the tent on the left just inside the Troll Bridge. I think it was one of the tents that blew down. :(

You might want to wait a week or so and email info@falconridgefolk.com to ask about your bracelet. A few years ago I (thought I) got home without something, and emailed to inquire--they do keep the Lost and Found around for a while. Good luck!

Plea for Help on Lost Stuff

Postby john r » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:15 am

I received this from sheila turner, whom many of you may know, who asked me to repost it here (looking for many items left at the mainstage - cabana, double stroller, chairs, backpack, camera):

The good news: We survived the great storm of '08. The bad news: In our haste to get the babies to safety, we left our gear at the main stage,
and when we returned this a.m. to strike camp and gather our belongings,
we found that nothing was to be found. We scoured the lost and found
and spoke to numerous lovely volunteers, but still nothing.

Now, these are only things and we know that. Almost everything is
replaceable (and I'll get to the non-replaceable in a moment). BUT, I
thought that, just maybe, someone knows something or saw our stuff or
knows someone who may have seen our stuff, etc. Kind of a Falcon Ridge
6 degrees of separation stuff. Please feel free to forward this to any
person or group that may be able to help. I am on the TracyGrammer and Dave-and-Tracy Yahoo groups and the Nields Nook and the Jangle Poets lists at smoe.org; I know there are so many other lists out there, so,
please, spread the word.

What we are looking for: A little LL Bean cabana, turquoise with a
flowery print; a HUGE double (side-by-side) trail stroller; a green
backpack type of diaper bag; a black/grey backpack; and 2 blue Keyser
chairs. We find it a little incomprehensible that we were unable even
to find ONE thing from our little main stage encampment (we were in the
first line of canopies on the hill). And when we left yesterday, all
was still standing. We had parked the stroller facing into the cabana,
to protect both the cabana and the stroller. They were still there as
of about 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Now, for the irreplaceable. This was our 14-month-old twin daughters'
first Falcon Ridge and in the backpack was our digital camera. The
camera is replaceable, but the pictures from our weekend aren't. We'd
even be happy to get the memory card back, never mind the camera, but
I'm not holding out much hope. As a second-best option, if ANYONE took
pictures of our daughters, we would love to receive copies. It may
sound like a bizarre request...after all, why would anyone be taking
pictures of our daughters? But, we saw quite a few folks snapping a
picture here and there...our daughters are Ethiopian and attracted a bit
of attention. We're a bit heartbroken about the pictures. I was
planning on making a little board book along the lines of "Niamh and
Aoife Go to Falcon Ridge" so that next year, we can read them the book
as we're nearing the end of July.

In hindsight, we should have made sure to have swung by the main stage
on our way up to our car, but we, like so many others who were there,
were in a bit of a panic mode after being told we could not stay under
the kids' play area tent and being told that a second storm was on its
way and it was going to be worse than the golf-ball sized hail, high
winds, and torrential downpour that had just hit. We just wanted to get
the babies to Grandma's house in Troy.

The upshot is that everyone is safe and sound, our tent withstood the
blast with only one broken pole and only about 2 tablespoons of water in
it, and the babies had a freaking blast. They are still dancing! They
didn't even mind the storm at all! One napped throughout it all, until
the rain started coming into the kids' tent sideways, anyway.

If anyone can help, please let us know. You can e-mail me at this
e-mail address or Bob at bobcleary@mail.com <mailto:bobcleary@mail.com>
or you can call Sheila or Bob at 860-643-5958.

Best,
Sheila

Well, first off- sorry for your loss. After the 'event' some of my group took a walk to check out the main stage and saw your stuff still set up there. We were surprised to see that beautiful stroller still there under your canopy but figured that someone w/small kids would have made a quick getaway but would eventually come back for it. For what it's worth- I did see a couple walking and 'collecting' stuff left behind. I know that they were being selective in their choices because they opened each chair to make sure they weren't broken. Their arms were loaded w/ chairs, blankets, bags, tarps etc. As they left the main stage area they headed uphill and NOT towards any 'lost & found' area. They did leave your stroller and canopy though.
Maybe they will read this and know that I can see their faces and will do the right thing and if they have your bag they will contact you.
I'm sorry that I didn't speak up.

Honestly, I can't imagine 'Lost and Found' inventorying all that stuff and holding it until next year. Seems to me that it would be cost-prohibitive.....as well as a pain in the ass.

Lost and Found 2008

Postby Deeberg » Tue Jul 29, 2008 8:03 pm

I am sure there will more of this than usual. My big loss this weekend was the 1 gig memory card from my digital camera. I checked several times with the lost and found, and amazingly, someone had found and turned in a different (2 gig) card.

So, if anyone out there happened to find my card (with 99% of my FRFF memories on it) please let me know!

thanks

Lost memory card

Postby simoncat » Tue Jul 29, 2008 8:22 pm

Hi. I found a 1G memory card and sent you a personal message, since you left no contact info. Perhaps you can describe some pictures you took and send me your email address and home address to mail it to.

EDITED: Good news story: Deeberg identified her pictures and I will be mailing her the memory card. (Cool pictures of the car in the ditch by the shower stall, by the way. Wonder what the story behind that was?!?)

this from sheila:

<<ALL we want back is our memory card. People can keep the camera, the stroller, the babies' toys, the diapers, everything....they can just make up a dummy, anonymous Hotmail account and I will send them my address no questions asked>>

the memory card in the camera is full of pictures of the babies. that is what is irreplaceable.

We were stayed through sunday night in 10-acre camping. Sometime just before dusk we saw an dark colored older model 4-wheel drive pickup driving (sliding, really) around between trashpiles. In the back was a stroller matching your description. It looked to me like the guy maybe have been trashpicking whatever he could find. I'll ask around with my camp mates to see if anyone has a better recollection of the vehicle.

Lost and Found

Postby benazeman » Wed Jul 30, 2008 12:25 pm

Hi, folks! I just joined the Falcon Ridge Forum since I heard there were Lost and Found posts. I remember both of you who came for your digital camera cartridge and the stroller, etc.

I'm so glad that the camera cartridge was found by another of you! But please, next time (this goes for the one who found the earring as well) just bring it to the Lost and Found department across the path from Security.

And yes, Anne does keep the stuff - maybe not a whole year, but for a couple of months at least. The last task that me and my crew do is to sort it into boxes that are easy to go through, so that when you folks call or email, she can look for your lost item.

Any help that folks can give the missing stroller, etc. family would be greatly appreciated. The vast majority of the time, items (and cash, wallets, credit cards, expensive instruments, etc.) are turned in - it'd sad those few times when stuff is stolen.

Sheila & Bob,
I am so sorry you lost your things and hope someone will return them to you, but I am happy you and your babies are ok. It is really sad :x that there are opportunists out there just waiting to steal someone else’s things when disaster hits, even at Falcon Ridge. We would all like to think that everyone who attends is as good-hearted and honest as we are, and most are.
I hope, at the very least, that you get your precious pictures back.
God bless,
Marie

thanks to everyone who's responded!

Postby Fantine729 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 5:39 pm

This is Sheila; I've finally been approved to post. It sounds like there is pretty much no hope of receiving our stuff from the main stage back, but I have to say it has been vastly entertaining hearing about the various sightings of it! :)

There are always a few bad apples in any bunch, and, well, if they're going to get off on stealing a double stroller, among other stuff (ours and others'), then I have to believe that Falcon Ridge karma is going to come get them in a big way someday.

Thanks again, and if anyone else saw our stuff at any time on Sunday afternoon/evening, by all means, just let me know, if only for the entertainment value. I also thank everyone who has sent pictures...I must have received about a dozen of them so far!
