I received this from sheila turner, whom many of you may know, who asked me to repost it here (looking for many items left at the mainstage - cabana, double stroller, chairs, backpack, camera):
The good news: We survived the great storm of '08. The bad news: In our haste to get the babies to safety, we left our gear at the main stage,
and when we returned this a.m. to strike camp and gather our belongings,
we found that nothing was to be found. We scoured the lost and found
and spoke to numerous lovely volunteers, but still nothing.
Now, these are only things and we know that. Almost everything is
replaceable (and I'll get to the non-replaceable in a moment). BUT, I
thought that, just maybe, someone knows something or saw our stuff or
knows someone who may have seen our stuff, etc. Kind of a Falcon Ridge
6 degrees of separation stuff. Please feel free to forward this to any
person or group that may be able to help. I am on the TracyGrammer and Dave-and-Tracy Yahoo groups and the Nields Nook and the Jangle Poets lists at smoe.org; I know there are so many other lists out there, so,
please, spread the word.
What we are looking for: A little LL Bean cabana, turquoise with a
flowery print; a HUGE double (side-by-side) trail stroller; a green
backpack type of diaper bag; a black/grey backpack; and 2 blue Keyser
chairs. We find it a little incomprehensible that we were unable even
to find ONE thing from our little main stage encampment (we were in the
first line of canopies on the hill). And when we left yesterday, all
was still standing. We had parked the stroller facing into the cabana,
to protect both the cabana and the stroller. They were still there as
of about 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Now, for the irreplaceable. This was our 14-month-old twin daughters'
first Falcon Ridge and in the backpack was our digital camera. The
camera is replaceable, but the pictures from our weekend aren't. We'd
even be happy to get the memory card back, never mind the camera, but
I'm not holding out much hope. As a second-best option, if ANYONE took
pictures of our daughters, we would love to receive copies. It may
sound like a bizarre request...after all, why would anyone be taking
pictures of our daughters? But, we saw quite a few folks snapping a
picture here and there...our daughters are Ethiopian and attracted a bit
of attention. We're a bit heartbroken about the pictures. I was
planning on making a little board book along the lines of "Niamh and
Aoife Go to Falcon Ridge" so that next year, we can read them the book
as we're nearing the end of July.
In hindsight, we should have made sure to have swung by the main stage
on our way up to our car, but we, like so many others who were there,
were in a bit of a panic mode after being told we could not stay under
the kids' play area tent and being told that a second storm was on its
way and it was going to be worse than the golf-ball sized hail, high
winds, and torrential downpour that had just hit. We just wanted to get
the babies to Grandma's house in Troy.
The upshot is that everyone is safe and sound, our tent withstood the
blast with only one broken pole and only about 2 tablespoons of water in
it, and the babies had a freaking blast. They are still dancing! They
didn't even mind the storm at all! One napped throughout it all, until
the rain started coming into the kids' tent sideways, anyway.
