Marketing FRFF

Me thinx that the (economic) problem that FRFF is encountering right now is one involving marketing, ie, getting PAYING customers 'into the stands'. And for Anne to be indicating that there MIGHT NOT BE a FRFF next year, leaves me thinking (further) that the marketing problem is one of CRISIS proportions.

i had thought that the size (payting customers) of the festival was not a problem...that, in fact, the organizers did not want it to get too big. this year, weather was the main problem, although gasoline prices may have kept some away. with terrible forecasts, i assume day tripping dropped. moreover, sunday is a huge merchandising day, and that got wiped out. finally, there is the problem of refunds.

marketing to draw a larger audience causes all sorts of other problems (including increased costs in preparing to handle a bigger crowd). in bad weather like this year losses might actually be far larger if the festival were bigger.

of course, the festival is already well known, drawing from florida, california, and even overseas.

"......did/(do) not want it to get too big."?????? While I'll stress that "TOO" is a VERY operative word, I will, nonetheless, have to declare your thinking to be very naive with regard to binness.

Not necessarily. It's not always in everybody's best interests to outgrow one's efficiency.

I didn't hear a single syllable about the possibility of no next year until AFTER the weather washed out Sunday this year. This leads me to believe that it's not about marketing, it's not about the festival being too small...it's about a difficult year.

I think FRFF is FAR from even coming close to outgrowing "(its) efficiency".

Ask the vendors if they want more traffic, ie, customers. And don't gimme that crap about the Sunflower Pizza guy retiring. I think 'greener pastures' exist (or will exist) elsewhere for many vendors.

yeah - that is why those huge conglomerates are now downsizing. they are so naive. i cannot for the life of me understand why they have not tapped you to be a CEO.

Can someone explain the "refunds" to me? Are there people who purchased 4 day camping tickets asking for refunds? Or day passes? Because, as far as I can tell, you buy an outdoor festival ticket knowing full well that weather could be a factor. Only about 5 hours of the FOUR DAY festival were cancelled, so I'm not sure who in their right mind could ask for a refund. The rain only got in the way of the music on Sunday afternoon--other than that, the weather cooperated during music hours.

I think the refund issue is more about people who purchased Sunday day passes only, since Sunday was such a wash. People may feel they have not gotten their money's worth. *shrug*

appear to have all the answers to every possible question......
I would like to make the following suggestion........

Brian - it would be great if you started your own folk festival
and then you would be right on top of any situation that may
or may not arrise.

And Brain - Vinnie (SunFlower Pizza) is a good friend of mine and
he retired from the business! lol.......can't fault the guy for wanting
to sit down in his golden years!

PLEASE understand that my SUGGESTIONS are proffered for the BETTERMENT of FRFF.

My question STILL stands, ie., why did your buddy NOT SELL Sunflower Pizza (And the income stream that it represents to him??) thus resulting in Sunflower Pizza's continued presence at FRFF??? If you can't figure it out, I've got an answer for ya.

independently of anyone else's "opinions" and "suggestions"
what they want and don't want for Falcon Ridge.

Again - since you have all the best knowledge and advice
how to run a festival, I still suggest that you put YOUR MONEY
into a festival and then you can be on top of everything and
make all the decisions for the BETTERMENT of YOUR festival.

When you have YOUR festival up and running......please
make a board similar to this one and I will attend your
festival and then offer my opinions on what you could do

Finally, what part of "retirement" don't you understand? My
friend Vinnie "RETIRED" as in - he sold his business - he got

For chrisesake, Arnie....OPEN YOUR EYES!!! I don't give a damn about Vinnie retiring. Quite simply, I contend that the ABSENSE of Sunflower Pizza (a successful enterprise) from the midway at FRFF, can be INTERPRETED as an indication that FRFF was NOT a successful outlet FOR THAT PRODUCT....and MAY, further, indicate a DECLINE in the food traffic at FRFF.

I STILL think that you should stick to you strength, ie, the band-aids and aspirin.....oh, and aloe.
