When I came back to the forum (I had actually forgotten that it existed) a friend of mine said, "you have to promise to not argue with trolls."

They didn't have to tell me that. It doesn't even have to be a malicious troll. There are always people I know it isn't worth arguing with. If everyone followed that rule the flaming would stop. Yes I know it is hard. You just have to learn to take things from whence they came. The other rule is to never make personal attacks even if you feel them justified.

We have to just talk around anyone we find difficult. If we make believe they don't exist they'll have no fun posting.

I would never get hurt by what some random stranger said online about me. I used to actually find it entertaining.
The optimist proclaims this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimists fears this is so.
don't flee because of one troll. that is probably what he wants. you have been a positive and informed contributor to the forum, and we should not lose people like you because of one fool.
'Tis NOT what I want, john. I just have an aversion to cheap-shot artists.
Personally, I take nothing for granted, such as common decency, when viewing and participating in anonymous public forums such as those found on the internet. That said and understanding that there are those who seem to utilize anonymity to vent frustrations related to their life issues which they seem to not be able to address in more mature and socially acceptable manners ..... manners being a key word here. Anyway, in a nutshell, there are those who will utilize this media to assuage their frustrations - I would rather have them targeting transference related objects of their frustrations with vile words rather than targeting their frustrations through the scope of a high-powered rifle. In other words, such individuals will always find a means to self-medicate their issues and it's best to just let them rant in silence, pity them and not feed into their issues - They just might really need to use an internet forum to keep their demons at bay!
Hey Fart, you're making WAY too many assumptions in your post.

Gordon,

I trust that you are perceptive enough to notice that it is NOT I who is doing the personal attacking, here.
Sorry, I would have to agree with Lew 100% on this one.

It's indicative of your conceitedness that you think Lew is not sincere in what he said.

Although you, TFF, made some interesting comments and remarks, overall in my opinion you have been a negative aspect to this forum.
That is, indeed, my opinion of Lew's comment....and I'm sticking to it.

I've had a PM with Anne and will resume posting. Really wasn't gone, just lurking.

Good to be back, I hope the nature of the posts will be peaceful and no member will take the bait presented by the series of recent posts.

This was my first festival and I stayed for 4 days and enjoyed every bit. I almost wish I hadn't visited the forum after, as the continuing silence on the specifics of the festival's financial difficulties and the need for a relief fund first intrigued me and now concern me. What are people donating to, and why? How much is needed? Is $10,000 enough or is $500,000 needed? Was there a net loss or just a lowered profit? Is there really a likelihood that without financial assistance the festival won't go forward next year? Why? Maybe everyone knows these answers except for me. Maybe I haven't been coming enough to know not to ask. I plan to make it an annual thing, but this fund issue is most curious.
