Showcase Announcement coming

Postby AnneS » Sat Nov 08, 2008 6:07 am

On Sept 5 this year I had less than 200 surveys, usually have 1200-1500 to work with on showcase votes, have 420 now as mentioned prev'ly. I have let this go for a while, admittedly, and will get to it ASAP. Have been using this bit of time Oct/Nov to work on some private pr work in an effort to make some $$$, kinda have no choice this year, Anne

So you just had the ones I stuffed the ballot boxes with Amy Speace's name on them.

When is FRFF going to switch to touch screen voting with a paper record?

Poll

Postby Notlob » Sat Nov 22, 2008 12:35 am

Using the artists listed in the schedule found on the home page I tried to create a poll so we forum members could vote, but the post errored out due to there being 23 choices.

Not sure what the limit is, but if the webmaster can bump it to 23 I would be happy to try loading it again.

How about splitting it into two polls randomly and equally, then having the two winners go head-to-head?

Weren't there judges at the actual showcase show on Friday? Could they have any input in the decision? Or were they just for choosing the entries? Was the showcase show recorded at all to hear the audience's reactions to the different acts?

Your idea is sound, but I put a lot of time and effort into creating the 23-person poll, only to fine 23 made it tilt. I'd go through the exercise again with two halves, but I don't want to find 11 or 12 also exceed the capacity.

Best if the webmaster told us the limit, or reset it to 23 or higher, then I would be more likely to go make the effort again.

I'm confused. Is Anne asking you, Notlob, to poll the few on the forum to determine the winners?

I understand that Anne has not received the usual number of ballots due to the untimely storm, but what purpose is a poll going to serve? I'd bet that most of the folks on this forum have already voted, so any poll added to the votes cast would just result in duplicative votes. The people have voted, albeit fewer than in past years. Why the need for a poll?

ucy Wainwright Roche's version of "Wild Mountain Thyme&

Lucy Wainwright Roche (daughter of Loudon Wainwright and Suzzy Roche, what pair of musical genes!) has a beautiful version of the traditional ballad "Wild Mountain Thyme" on MySpace.

Supports my theory and belief that contemporary singer-songwriters should ground themselves in and develop a repertoire of traditional material, as Joan Baez did with the her recordings of Childe Ballads.
