Ohhhh?? That means two years IN A ROW for her cell-phone-flashlight thang.....that would be a first. Please, let's avoid the triviality.

I see that he's booked for New Bedford's Summerfest, as well. I hope that they include a set in the intimate Whale Room.

Well, it's Thursday that Crooked Still's website indicates that they'll be in attendance.....I DO hope that they won't be closing, which is to say that I hope/TRUST that there will be a 'bigger' headliner. There WAS, IMNSHO, a dramatic diminution in closing acts (for Thursady and Saturday nights) in 2007....at least compared to the likes of Richie Havens, Richard Thompson, David Bromberg, Railroad Earth, Arlo Guthrie, and Shawn Colvin from years previous. Marshall Crenshaw just did NOT 'get it done'!! And though I enjoyed The Strangelings, I think they did little to increase attendance figures....they just weren't/aren't known. I hope/trust that 2008 will reverse that trend.

Dan Bern not worth a mention?? I would be happy to see Dar headline this year. i was surprised she didn't last year. I do agree with you about Crenshaw. not only do i not see him as folk.. he just didn't do a great job..

Well, Dan was a headliner, as were Hot Tuna, but, by the end of Bern's set, the number of people remaining on the slope was a TINY fraction of those who started the evening there. IMHO, Dan is an acquired taste, and, although he does have his following, I don't think he 'drew' many fans to The Ridge.

On Fridays, the Summer's Evening Song-Swap is CLEARLY the drawing card, and one might guess that the 'closers' on Thursdays and Saturdays are, likewise, performers who bring in the crowds. Such was the case with Richard Thompson, Richie Havens, Arlo, and David Bromberg. We can debate whether having headliners perform at midnight impacts their ability to draw, but it's not debatable that some acts draw while others simply supplement.

WADR, having Dar Williams either headline or close is without merit. As it stands now, she unfairly always gets an evening slot simply because of her illumination thang....you'll never see her (scheduled to) perform when the audience is sitting under the hot afternoon sun....and that's a scammitization situation. Not only does/will she not draw, especially as a soloist, but she needs to get some voice training....her voice is growing thin, and is at times, discordant.

Thinking outside-of-the-box.....that's what I do.

IMHO the reason for the "tiny fraction" on the "slope" at the end of Dan Bern's set was because of the weather not the musician.

i agree.. dan is one of my favorite artists and the rain made me miserable by the end of his set.. i think it affected him too.... he came out in a great mood and it kind of drifted away toward the end.

WHAT????

Postby TyteFystedFolkie » Sat Mar 08, 2008 12:13 pm

It's been almost a day since I (and presumably others) received my sixteen blue (four-day with camping) tickets in the mail, and I'm the FIRST to make mention of the enclosed information regarding scheduled performers....Eliza Gilkyson, Tracy Grammer, Janis Ian, David Massengill with Jack Hardy, Railroad Earth, Nerissa and Katryna?? Sound like any Thursday or Saturday headliners in there?? My money says Railroad Earth repeats as one of 'em.....they were really good in 2005.

I'm still looking forward to the announcement(s) regarding Levon Helm, Gordon Lightfoot, and John Fogerty.....I've already selected which checkered flannel shirt that I'll bring.

Yikes....do you have some inside information regarding the day-to-day, stage-by-stage schedule?? Is THAT the SCHEDULE for Saturday night?? If so, it's a no-brainer for me.....ear-plugs and early to bed....for the FIRST time in my fifteen years at The Ridge.
