Say nice things about Chuckwagon here

Postby treeshephard » Sun Mar 16, 2008 2:48 pm

So I was on chuckwagon for years upon years. From the beginning when we just gave water, sunscreen, and the ocasional yummy snack! Now it has become the extravaganza of meals and smiles.
Last year was my first year away from my beloved crew. I was on the massage crew, and I will probably be on it again. So I thought I wanted to create a space where people could tell nice stories for all my beautifull friends who take care of us all.

For all the hard work and love shown by Nancy and the Awesome Chuckers!

ChuckWagon is now called Hospitality. That happened when the 2 crews merged a few years ago! But they are the lovely people who drive around on golf carts and bring food to all the volunteers that have to work during food times. They are the volunteers that take care of the volunteers !

Chuckwagon was a great crew to be on.
I have really good memories of getting to hang out with various musicians behind the main stage, workshop stage and dance stage.
I got to meet the likes of Chris Smither, The Slambovians, Richie Havens and Vance Gilbert to name a few. I had great seats for many shows when I was on the crew without having to get up early for the tarp run.
One of the more humorous moments on the chuckwwagon crew was riding on one of the golf carts with a fellow volunteer when the fest was still at Long Hill Farm.
She was driving and traffic was very heavy as it was opening day for campers. She not want to wait and cut across a grass field towards the parking area where volunteers where directing patrons to park so they could purchase or pick up tickets.
The field was full of thick grass and looked level until we hit the first of several ruts and bumps at full speed. It must've been a hilarious site watching the cart get airborne several times as we went across the field. Amazingly it did not do any damage to the cart or either of us. When we stopped to provide drinks for volunteers directing traffic the drinks were well mixed and amazingly still on the cart.

I have very happy memories of being surprised by Chuckwagon crew. I was pulling a double-shift of 6-hours at a dusty, busy gate. I was getting hungry and thirsty. All of a sudden, a really nice chuckwagon crew person popped by on a golf-cart. She offered me a cooling drink and a meal.

It was such a surprise and a welcome refreshment.

Somehow, the memory of that little encounter -- despite all the many other cool things going on at Falcon Ridge -- was one of the things that made me want to come back and volunteer again in future years.
